We have 3 successful youth groups, covering young people from 8—17 years old. Over the past year there have been some great developments and projects.

Junior group (8—10) Wednesday from 6.15—8.15 pm

The group enjoys a varied programme with crafts & sport being the most popular. The young people have grown together as a group, and individuals have increased their own self confidence & esteem. The programme also looks at issues facing young people in Gateshead.

Intermediate Work ( 11-13) - Monday from 6.15—8.15 pm.

This group has really developed over the past year. 8 young people and 2 leaders took part in a Skiing Residential in February. We covered a variety of issues in the group sessions. One of the highlights was our alcohol awareness night. Following a video presentation, and discussion around the risks of drinking, we made non-alcoholic cocktails. A very enjoyable night with a lot of learning for the young people & leaders involved. Other activities which made a difference to the young people were cookery & girls sports nights.

Senior group Thursday 6.15-8.15pm

Many of the group are working towards achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Through hard work and commitment 4 young men achieved their bronze award and one young woman achieved her silver award. These were presented to the young people at the Award presentation by Peter Beardsley.

The young people learned about map reading, safety, caring for the environment & their bikes. They were also taught to cook on stoves, group work & team building. The qualifying expedition took place in October. We returned to Yorkshire for a weekend and the young people cycled the required distance over 2 days.
